If you are planning music for a funeral outside of the Catholic tradition, you have flexibility to pick from a wide range of musical genres. Please don't hesitate to select music from your cultural or religious background or songs that are meaningful to you.

You will find recordings below the videos of popular songs from funerals in the Christian tradition. You are not required to pick songs from this list. There are a plethora of songs available and I can help guide you if you need direction.

For Catholic Funerals: 

In a general sense, music that is appropriate for a Catholic Mass is appropriate for a Catholic Funeral Liturgy. It is not necessary for you to make any selections, but if you prefer to select the music, I have assembled a list of commonly used songs at Funeral Liturgies.

You may choose:

• One Responsorial Psalm

• One "Song of Farewell" (sung during the Final Commendation)

• Up to five hymns: 

  • Entrance

  • Preparation of the Gifts

  • Communion 

  • Communion Reflection (If a Communion Reflection song is chosen, please know that it may shorten the Communion song depending on the size of the assembly)

  • Recessional
